Firstly I'd like to say that i'm a big fan of all of your art, I just felt like this was a particularly good example.
I'll start off by getting criticisms out of the way. Firstly the thing that stands out to me is that the scale of the characters is a little way off, I'm aware that Celestia is a few hands taller than Luna but in this piece she dwarfs her sister. Also, it looks like their knees are hinged backwards or they have Disney-style bunny feet. I dunno, maybe that was intentional.
Ok, now the nice bit I pretty much ODed on squee with this one, the concept is adorable and gamer Luna is just cool. As a man whose close friends include the residents of New Austin and the crew of the SSV Normandy I guess a gamer pony just appeals to me. Even if the mechanics of hooves and trigger buttons continues to baffle me.
On an artistic level, bearing in mind i'm no artist, the idea of the black background and the low lighting is brilliant here, the use of shade and colour is very attractive and I'm particularly impressed with the shading on Celestia since I'm pretty sure the show never shows her in low light. Her facial expression reminds me of the biggest gaming mistake of my life; playing through Alien vs Predator and Alone in the Dark with the lights off (shush, I know, I'm a pathological coward)
Once again, MM, I'm really impressed and I'll make sure to force this picture at all my friends ASAP- whether they actually give a damn or not!
First off, I love the poses of Celestia and Luna, it looks really adorable. Just seeing ponies sit in these kind of poses is all kinds of awesome for me. Next I absolutely love the way Celestia is hugging Luna to herself in obvious fear, whist Luna seems really relaxed and amused at what she is seeing.
Kudos are also warranted for use of wings to add to a characters emotional expression. I feel wings are really under utilised to highlight a characters emotional state. For example, a batwing pegasus gnawing on their wing, unsure of how to proceed.
Another thing I love is the size difference between Luna and Celestia, you really get the feeling that Celestia is the older sibling in this image. I also like how long you made their horns, making them pretty accurate in regards to their length in the show. I also adore youir use of shadow in this image and how it emphasis's that Celestia and Luna are indeed watching a film together . Shadow detail overall, looks fantastic, next work.
I also enjoy the characters manes, which look great in this image, but I am left scratching my head at what happened with Luna's tail . Luna's tail just looks a lot rougher than the rest of the image, like you never got the chance to fully finish it. Overall I love this image and think it's one of your best Mickey and urge you to try for images of this quality in future.
L: Tia? What are you-? C: SHH! Did you hear that? L: Hear what? C: It sounded like the eerie lament of some dark demon bent on dragging us to our doom! L: Tia... That's the refrigerator...
Celestia's always been the more laid-back and "casual" one. She's not afraid to be herself, even as royalty (we all saw that photo of her pigging out, right?). Luna can be just as fun, but she's not as casual as her big sis. Yet, Celestia always knows when to be serious. They may not technically be immortal, be whether or not you've live for over a thousand years, you're just as imperfect as the rest of us. (but in a good way) And maybe just as funny.
